One of the great festivals of Granada arrives, the traditional festival of Corpus Christi, whose beginning will mark the lighting of the Fair on Saturday June 3 in the city. This year the Almanjáyar venue will have 64 booths and a varied program of activities both at the fair and throughout the capital throughout the eight days that this festivity lasts.

Music, theater, parades, gastronomy, and animations will unfold both in the Corpus del Centro and in the Fairgrounds, and these are some of the plans and activities that you cannot miss.

The Corpus Christi Procession is the central event and one of the most important days of the local calendar. It is a solemn and religious event that takes place this year 2023 on Thursday, June 8 at 10:15 a.m. from the Cathedral of Granada.

In it, the Most Holy Custody is worshiped, walking through the streets preceded by a long procession of civil and religious authorities.

This procession that gives its name to the festivities is very long, since in addition to the Monstrance, a large number of local authorities and ecclesiastical representatives, brotherhoods, guilds, public and private institutions, etc. parade with their insignia and banners.

La Tarasca is something similar to a singular parade and one of the favorite moments for children.

In this event, the figure of a woman rides on a dragon, accompanied by giants and big heads. One of its peculiarities that also causes a lot of expectation is that every year it changes its figure, changes its clothes and hairstyle according to fashion.

The City Council grants the honor of dressing and styling the Tarasca to local designers and hairdressers and always generates all kinds of criticism. On this occasion she will be a model of the designer María Francés with makeup by Antonio Valiente Hair

La Tarasca will leave the Town Hall, in Plaza del Carmen, on Wednesday, June 7 at 12 noon to tour the streets of the capital in a circular route that lasts about two hours.

There are dozens of activities that are planned for this big party in Granada within the fairgrounds. Among the most outstanding are those that are organized in the municipal booth installed by the City Council, which will host, for example, the gastronomic contest 'La Tapa Casetera' organized by Cerveza Alhambra and the Federation of Case Makers, which will take place on Monday, June 5 at 14 hours.

The music will be in the streets and booths during the 8 days that the Corpus Christi festivities last in Granada. Among the most outstanding proposals is the concert of 'Southern Crescent Chorale in Plaza Alonso Cano on June 5 at 8:00 p.m.
