The 15 votes of Compromís are key to the renewal of the statutory bodies that were blocked during the last legislature due to the PP’s refusal to support the changes despite the fact that the mandate of organizations such as the Sindicatura de Comptes, the Consell Jurídic Consultiu or the Consell de Transparency was expired. Some of the votes require a two-thirds majority, with which the votes of the Valencian supporters are presumed to be key, since they would make the 31 votes of the PSPV deputies unnecessary.
After the regional elections of 28-M, PP and Vox that will make up the new Valencian government have 53 deputies who, added to the 15 from Compromís, exceed (with 68 seats) the reinforced majorities that are necessary to win some votes. That agreement between ideologically distanced parties was about to materialize the last legislature when Ciudadanos seemed willing to unite their votes with those of the Botànic. However, the oranges did not control their own parliamentary group and, at the last minute, their trustee backed out.
Yesterday, when asked about Compromís’ willingness to negotiate with the recently released majority of the autonomous chamber, its new Ombudsman, Joan Baldoví, assured that “the obligation of politicians is to reach agreements and for the institutions to work.” In this sense, he took the opportunity to lament the “obstruction” by the PP of the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) that he experienced as a deputy in Congress.
“Compromís does not want to do that with the statutory bodies,” he added while showing his predisposition to reach agreements as long as the will of the polls is respected without “subjugation” or “impositions.” “Predisposition to dialogue, but rollers not we want none,” he emphasized.
Regarding the unity of action lost with the majority opposition party -in a rarefied climate between both parties after losing the government of the Generalitat Valenciana-, Baldoví wanted to recall that it was the Socialists who tried to ensure that Compromís did not have representation in the Board of The Valencian Courts. “We are the first to try to negotiate with the PSPV and we did not find any gesture, but we are always open to negotiations.”
All in all, the Compromís spokesman believes that returning to consensus with the PSPV would send “an important message to Valencian society.” Meanwhile, in the socialist ranks, after the agreement between the Valencian supporters and popular members at the Mesa de Les Corts, they fear that Compromís will have no qualms about agreeing with the PP to renew the organs without counting on them.
In another vein, the nationalists registered their parliamentary group yesterday. Finally, after the complaints from Iniciativa due to the excessive prominence of Més Compromís in the distribution of positions (Mesa de Les Corts, parliamentary spokesperson, candidacy for the generals), the party led by Mónica Oltra has managed to get hold of two of the three spokespersons attached in the Hemicycle.
Thus, the Ombudsman Joan Baldoví will be accompanied by Vicent Marzà (Més) and the acting councilors of the Initiative Aitana Mas and Isaura Navarro. A complicated balance that leaves Els Verds out of the cast, but which allows calming the waters in the coalition a few weeks before a general election where Sumar’s experiment continues to raise some doubts, above all, with proposals discussed within Compromís such as the ‘ universal heritage’ raised by Yolanda Díaz to give all young people who turn 18 a grant of 20,000 euros.
