Compromís alerts about the reddish color of the water in L'Albufera and demands that the Consell study it

The deputy spokesperson of the Compromís parliamentary group in Les Corts Isaura Navarro and the deputy Juan Bordera have registered parliamentary initiatives to ask the Consell about the "reddish color" that the water from L'Albufera de València has presented for a few weeks and to ask Medio Environment that studies it.

Specifically, the parliamentarians ask if investigations have been carried out to determine what causes this change in color and what measures will be taken to respect it by the Valencian administration, as reported by Compromís in a statement.

As Bordera explained, "the increase in temperatures that we are experiencing may be behind this change in the color of the water in L'Albufera, but we must specify the origin of this alteration. 2023 is being the year of record temperatures, with anomalous phenomena that are specifically affecting the Mediterranean. The Ministry of the Environment has to carry out studies that bring us closer to the specific cause to combat it," he asked.

The Compromís deputy denounces that "in the climate emergency situation that we are experiencing and that is already so visibly affecting L'Albufera, it is reckless that the PP and Vox government has cut the budget for 2024 in the Conselleria by 34% of Environment".

"It is bloody that how much more a determined commitment is needed to protect our natural space and combat what threatens it is cut back in this matter. We need a brave government on environmental issues and what we have is a government that denies climate change," he reproached .

For his part, for Navarro, "to all this is added the threat to L'Albufera that would be posed by an expansion of the Port of València that is being promoted without taking into account the environmental guarantees that a large project like this must comply with."

"Independent scientific bodies have already warned of the negative repercussions on La Albufera of the expansion of the port. We cannot allow business interests to be placed above the general interest, the protection of the territory, the ecosystems and our natural heritage" , has settled.
