Cinema attendance in Spain has risen 45% in 2022 compared to 2021 to 61.2 million viewers, with Avatar: The Sense of Water as the highest-grossing foreign film, and Padre no hay más que uno 3, by Santiago Segura, as the most watched Spanish, fourth of the total.

Spanish cinema closes 2022 with a market share of 22%, according to provisional data as of December 29 distributed this Friday by Comscore, which shows that the action genre has been the one that has most convinced this year, followed by animation and the comedy. In 2022 the box office reached the figure of 379 million euros, 49% more than in 2021.

Despite the growth recorded, the market is still halfway to recovering from pre-pandemic numbers. The data for 2022 is still 39% below the average for revenue and viewers before the pandemic, from 2015-2019.

The best release of the year was Avatar: The Sense of Water, released on December 16, with 21.8 million euros, followed by Minions: The Origin of Gru (20.7 million); Jurassic World: Dominion (18.1 million) and Father there is no more than one 3 (15.6 million). The other Spanish in the ranking of the ten most viewed is Tadeo Jones 3. The emerald table, at number seven, with 11.7 million.

The week of the year with the highest number of viewers was recorded in the month of December, from Friday 23 to Thursday 29 (film week) with a total of 2.4 million viewers. Wednesday, December 28, was the record attendance day of the post-pandemic period with more than 620,000 spectators.

The 10 provinces with the highest number of spectators were Madrid (20.6%), Barcelona (14.2%), Valencia (6.5%), Alicante (4.1%), Seville (3.8%) , Malaga (3.8%), Murcia (3.3%), Cádiz (2.9%), the Balearic Islands (2.4%) and Vizcaya (2.4%).

For the first time since 2019, the ten most viewed films of the year all exceed the barrier of 10 million euros in collection.
