Cepsa and Acciona will promote electric mobility with a network of battery exchangers

Barcelona was the first location chosen by Cepsa and Acciona to start up a pilot project that allows the development of a network of battery exchangers located in Cepsa service stations. The vehicles that will be able to access this service will, in principle, be electric motorcycles manufactured by Silence, a subsidiary of the Acciona Group since 2021.

As reported this Thursday by both companies in a press release, the first initiative of the joint project is already underway in Barcelona, at the Cepsa station located at Cmte d'Urgell street, 219, and will be complemented with five other locations in in this city to which another five will be added in Madrid that will be opening over the next few months.

For Silence, the goal is to launch "as soon as possible" a wide battery exchange service network throughout the country that responds to its purpose of accelerating decarbonization and reinforcing its leadership in the 100% renewable electric mobility sector. .

"With this pilot in Barcelona and Madrid, our users will have a battery exchange station less than 10 minutes away in both cities," explained the CEO of Silence, Carlos Sotelo, in the joint note issued by the companies.

For her part, Cepsa's director of New Mobility, Isabel Gorgoso, highlighted that with this alliance, the energy company will begin to offer micromobility services at its service stations.

Silence uses a removable battery system in its electric motorcycles that allows the user to leave the discharged unit at an exchange station, get another with a 100% charge and continue their journey, through a very fast operation, just one minute.

The batteries are also used by Seat Mó electric scooters –manufactured by the Acciona subsidiary– and the group's urban mobility service units.

The service is open to any other brand that wants to join the exchange system in the future.

To use the charging stations, Silence offers the option of buying the motorcycle without a battery, which reduces its price by 40%, and contracting a monthly subscription.
