The two Catalan teams of the Santander League were paired in the first round of the Copa del Rey with rivals that will require a significant displacement. Espanyol will play in the field of CD Rincón, from the province of Malaga. For its part, Girona will travel to Cuenca to face CD Quintanar del Rey.
Santa Amalia (Regional) - Villarreal, Alzira (Second RFEF) - Athletic Club, L'Alcora (Regional) - Elche are other notable matches in this first round, according to the draw held this Monday at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Roses (Madrid).
The matches of this first round will be played as a single match on the weekend of November 12 and 13, just before the break for the World Cup in Qatar.
The competition is played by 115 clubs, but five of them are exempt from playing the first round. The four teams qualified to play the Spanish Super Cup (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Real Betis and Valencia) will enter the draw in the third round, while Racing de Santander will do so in the second round as champions of the First RFEF last year.
Atlético de Madrid, winner of ten Cup titles, the last one in 2013, will begin their journey in the competition in the province of Soria against Almazán, currently located in the middle of the RFEF Third Table.
Another contender for the title, Sevilla, winner of the trophy five times and finalist for the last time in 2018, will have a long trip to Cantabria to face CD Velarde, in the Regional category.
Another of the 'greats' in this first round is Athletic Club de Bilbao, which has 23 titles in its showcase, although the last one was in 1984, despite the fact that in the last fifteen years it has been a finalist five times. His first rival is Alzira, located in descent in Group 3 of the Second RFEF.
Real Sociedad, winner of the Cup in 2020, will travel to the Toledo municipality of Cazalegas to face the local team, Regional.
