Catalonia received 1.02 million tourists in March, a figure that represents an increase of 44% compared to the figures for the same month last year. At the state level, Catalonia is consolidated as the second most visited area in Spain, concentrating almost 20% of total tourism and only surpassed by the Canary Islands.
As regards tourist spending, it grows proportionally to the arrival of visitors and scales up to 1,056 million euros, 43% more. As detailed by the National Statistics Institute, the French account for 19.5% of the travelers arriving in Catalonia, followed by the Italians.
In the accumulated data of the first quarter of the year, Catalonia is once again positioned as the second area of the State that has received the most tourists, with almost 2.8 million visitors, 53.4% more. Only surpassed by the Canaries with 3.7 million visitors, 30.9% more.
In third place is Andalucía, which received two million travelers, representing 46.2% more. According to the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, the data shows that 2023 will be an "extraordinary" year with more spending and longer stays.
