Catalana Occidente cuts up to 550 jobs

The insurer Grupo Catalana Occidente wants to cut its workforce by between 400 and 550 workers, which represents one in five employees of the traditional insurance business. The rest of the activity that is not affected is that of credit insurance. The layoffs will be through an incentive redundancy program for a period of two years.

The company explained in a statement that the person adjustment pursues "the objective of achieving a better organizational adaptation of the workforce with a view to the future corporate unification of the traditional business." The company is carrying out an integration of its operating and service platforms. Now the corporate integration of Seguros Catalana Occidente, Plus Ultra Seguros, Seguros Bilbao and GCO Reaseguros will take place next year.

The cut in personnel is focused exclusively on structural personnel, without affecting the provision of services, customer service or mediation networks, according to the company.

The corporate director of Human Resources of Grupo Catalana Occidente, Pedro Ribes, has explained that "now begins a period of information and consultations of the plan for voluntary incentivized departures with the representatives of the workers, which will be carried out with total transparency and taking care to guarantee the quality of service we provide to our policyholders”.
