Carvajal: "I defend the presumption of innocence"

Daniel Carvajal gave a press conference this morning at the Las Rozas Football City and maintained the warmth and equidistance between Luis Rubiales and Jenni Hermoso that he already showed in the interview on Onda Cero on Tuesday night. The national team and Real Madrid full-back stressed that "the presumption of innocence is for everyone. It is a constitutional right and I abide by that." Carvajal criticized what Luis Rubiales did in the Women's World Cup, but also highlighted that as president he had had "exceptional behavior toward me as a player."

As expected, a good part of the press conference was dedicated to talking about the scandal in the Federation. Carvajal did not avoid any question and answered calmly, without getting upset at any time. If in the radio interview he highlighted that Jenni Hermoso had not denounced Rubiales, at the press conference it did not go as far as that, although his defense of the player was quite timid: "I have not said at any time that Jenni was not the victim." "I have only said that I am not here to judge anyone and that I defend that the presumption of innocence must be preserved. I cannot victimize or blame anyone without a final sentence."

And he continued: "If Jenni is having a bad time, you have to show solidarity with her, but I don't think the president (former president Rubiales) is having a good time either. I'm not going to classify anyone," said the player.

Carvajal also spoke about the statement from the players of the national team: "It is very difficult to put 24 opinions inside the locker room. We did it with the best intention, for them and for us and I think it was a statement according to the situation and what we represent. We all agreed," he said.

Asked about Rubiales, he was very complimentary: "The opinion I have of Rubiales is that he has excellent professional treatment. As a player, he has always helped us in an exceptional way in terms of families, championships and so on, and I am nobody to make or break the FEF ”.

Then, Carvajal once again seemed lukewarm about the scandal in the Federation: “At the media level, the impact of what has happened is very high. We are in the spotlight for the good and the bad. I wish there was more talk about the championship achieved by women's football. I'm not going to give an opinion. “Everyone can do what they see fit and I prefer not to.”

The full-back believes he has behaved well with the players: "We gave the Real Madrid champions a kick-off at the Bernabéu and I congratulated them on social media."

Regarding Luis de la Fuente and the dismissed Jorge Vilda, Carvajal's opinion was not to get too wet: "In the internal regime, decisions are made in which footballers cannot enter. I can only tell you that we are going to the death with De la Fuente. Decisions about them are not up to us. We in the sports field are to death with De la Fuente ". On the dismissal of Vilda he did not want to be more explicit. "The dressing room is already focused on the Georgia game, which is key, "he said.
