Cartoonist Juanito Mediavilla, co-author of 'Makoki' dies

The Burgos cartoonist Juanito Mediavilla, co-author with the late Miguel Gallardo of the mythical character 'Makoki' and protagonist of the so-called Spanish underground scene with his work in the magazine El Víbora, has died this Friday at the age of 72 in Burgos, where he lived with his wife.

Mediavilla, considered one of the fathers of the Spanish underground comic, was the author of scripts in magazines such as Butifarra! or Rock Comix, but it was his alliance with the Catalan cartoonist Miguel Gallardo that made him known, especially when he began to participate in the series 'Makoki', created by Gallardo.

A character who today is orphaned after being the emblem of the Spanish alternative comic of the 80s, as well as after having a decisive role in the magazine El víbora.

Mediavilla was also the author of other series such as 'Juan Jaravaca' for El Víbora and published comics in other magazines such as Hara Kiri or Rambla.
