Carme Alcoriza, Jordi Pujol's secretary for decades, dies

Carme Alcoriza, the former secretary and chief of staff of the former president of the Generalitat Jordi Pujol for decades, has died after a long fight against cancer, as La Vanguardia has learned.

Secretary of Jordi Pujol during the 23 years in which the former president led the Catalan Government, between 1980 and 2003, Carme Alcoriza was considered by many to be a key person within the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Precisely that ability to influence Pujol was for years a source of controversy and speculation about his tensions with Marta Ferrusola, wife of the former president.

One more example of his close relationship with Jordi Pujol is that he continued to collaborate with him when he left the presidency of the Catalan Generalitat, 19 years ago.

The former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont has lamented on Twitter the death of Carme Alcoriza. In a tweet, he has transferred his condolences to the family and has affirmed that Alcoriza "always worked with admirable loyalty, efficiency and discretion at the side of President Pujol".
