Carlos Sainz takes the 'pole' of the United States Grand Prix

The Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) has taken the pole position of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. For his part, the Asturian Fernando Alono has signed the ninth fastest time, although in his case he has a five-place penalty in the grill, like Leclerc, Perez and Zhou.

Sainz has completed the 5,513 meters of the Austin track in 1:34.356, ahead of his teammate, the Monegasque Charles Leclerc, and the already two-time world champion Max Verstappen, from Red Bull.

Also within the top-10, Sergio Pérez was fourth; Lewis Hamilton, fifth; George Russell, sixth; Lance Stroll, seventh; Lando Norris, eighth; and Valtteri Bottas, tenth. As we say, this is the provisional classification, as there will be changes when the sanctions are known.

Despite his first position in the classification of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz wanted to be cautious and assured that "the Red Bulls are favorites in the race".

"They usually have better race pace and usually they catch up with us because Max does a good job and Red Bull has a good car for race day, but we will do everything we can to be ahead tomorrow and try to win the race which is going to be an amazing way. to start these last four rounds of the World Cup", said the man from Madrid in the interview at the foot of the track.

Sainz has received the pole position trophy from the Spanish Àlex Palou, 2021 IndyCar champion, who made his official debut in Formula 1 this Friday in the first free practice session, in which he drove a McLaren.

"It was a fun lap, a lot of fun, but complicated by the gusts of wind. Every corner is an adventure with these cars because you don't know how much grip you're going to have, when to wait, and I was able to do a lap without making any mistakes to get a pole that hadn't just arrived", said the man from Madrid about the turn that gave him the first place on the starting grid.
