CaixaBank expands the cash service for those over 65 years of age

CaixaBank has informed its customers of the expansion of the cash service for users over 65 years of age, called 'senior', in a communication about the modification of certain conditions of 'Day to Day' accounts.

The modifications will affect aspects such as the conditions for providing the cashier service, the tacit overdraft, compensation for claim costs in the event of non-payment and improvements in the security of payments made through CaixaBankNow.

CaixaBank offers the cash service (collections and payments, deposits, cash withdrawals, transfers, requests for statements and other enquiries) through ATMs, digital channels and in person at a teller window through a commercial manager. The first two are free, while the bank has long charged a commission of 2 euros for the teller window service for those operations that can be carried out at ATMs.

Until now, those over 65 years of age could carry out 4 free transactions per month at the teller window. After the modification, this group will be able to carry out 5 operations per month at the window without having to pay the commission, according to the communication to clients, to which Europa Press had access.

Likewise, the bank has reported on the extension of cashier hours, which in practice has been applied since last March. Before, the schedule was from Monday to Friday until 11:00 a.m., while after the modification it is from Monday to Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (except during summer time, when the offices remain closed Thursday afternoon).

On the other hand, CaixaBank has modified the conditions of the tacit overdraft, so that when a new tacit overdraft is authorized, the client will have 10 calendar days to return it. The opening price of this service is 0.2% and is calculated on the maximum overdraft balance that occurs in those 10 days. The APR is 7.50%.

If the tacit overdraft is not covered at the end of the settlement period, the amount of the unpaid overdraft will generate daily default interest at a rate of 9.5%, which will be settled and debited quarterly from the account itself.

Another of the changes that has been notified to customers is the one related to compensation for claim costs in the event of non-payment. Currently, the amount charged for the steps taken in the event of non-payment is 35 euros, while the new compensation will be 40 euros.

Finally, CaixaBank has reported on the measures it applies to reinforce the security of payments that customers make from CaixaBankNow. "These are objective improvements, for the most part we are already applying them, which by incorporating them in this statement will complete their catalog of rights in a more transparent way," the entity indicates.
