Borràs revolts against Aragonès for fearing that the pact that gives Junts the presidency of the Parliament is "surpassed"

The president of Junts per Catalunya and suspended president of the Parliament, Laura Borràs, has revolted this Saturday against the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, who yesterday Friday considered the pact that JxCat and Esquerra sealed at the beginning of the legislature as "overcome" Catalan, by virtue of which the post-convergents held the presidency of the Catalan Chamber.

"It produces a certain embarrassment for others to hear President Aragonès saying that the agreement with us to preside over the Parliament has been superseded, because then what would also be superseded and affected is his own presidency", Borràs pointed out in his speech at the national council that he held training this Saturday in Vilalba dels Arcs (Terra Alta).

The leader of JxCat, in addition, has stressed that the first to break the pact that Junts and ERC sealed in 2021 were the Republicans by not complying with the agreement.

The head of the Catalan Executive, in an interview on Ràdio 4 and La 2, said yesterday that the pact was considered over and invited Junts to decide what it wants to do with the presidency of the Catalan Chamber. Aragonès, in any case, did not close the door so that Junts, even if Borràs is disqualified, can recover the presidency.

In any case, despite the fact that the Borràs case for alleged document falsification and prevarication, already seen for sentencing, has not yet been resolved in the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), for weeks the Parliament has commented the possibility that the presidency of the institution changes hands towards the socialists, who remain in the background in a prudent attitude in this matter. However, Aragonès was yesterday "very open" to negotiating with JxCat the election of a new presidency of the Parliament. The only thing that is clear in this matter is that the Republicans, who are in the minority in the Government of the Generalitat with only 33 deputies, will not have the presidency of the Catalan Chamber.

For all this, in Junts, where there is a sector that does not share Borràs's strategy and considers that he should have resigned from office when it was suspended to make it easier for the formation to retain that institutional position, the second in Catalonia, there is some discomfort. "It has dragged us all down with it and it could harm the project," said a leader this week.

The resolution of the Borràs trial is expected in the coming weeks. Even if she is disqualified, in the Junts per Catalunya structure, as long as there is no final sentence, a decision should not be made about her role and whether or not she is suspended and relieved of the charges. If the management or the guarantees commission consider that it is a case of lawfare, as the leader has defended for a long time, she could continue as president of the party even if she is convicted of crimes against the public administration.

Despite the fact that with the TSJC ruling it is not necessary to take a position yet, in Junts there are those who believe that Borràs should step aside if she is disqualified. In the possibilist sector, there are many voices that believe that her president is no longer an electoral asset as she was in the past and that she will not be one again even if she is acquitted. In the formation they fear that the sentence will arrive just before the municipal ones and it could affect them.
