Bold will open a battery factory in the US and double its workforce in Montmeló

Bold has presented this morning its expansion plan as a manufacturer of electric batteries for aircraft during a visit by the Minister of Business Roger Torrent. The company, based in Montmeló, plans to invest 25 million euros in the next two years to open a factory in the United States, double the size of its team, and strengthen its laboratories in Catalonia.

"The demand for electric batteries in the aeronautical sector is arousing interest in the race to accelerate the energy transition. We see interest in our batteries from suppliers of large aviation companies. They are customers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy "says Gerard Torres, co-founder of Bold together with Bernat Carreras.

The battery plant in the United States responds to the company's need to be close to its customers. In fact, the company has recently opened offices in London for the same need. The location of the new factory in the United States will be determined within a year or two. Meanwhile, the company will double the workforce at its factory in Catalonia. It now has 130 workers and Bold plans to hire 100 more within two years. In addition, the company will invest resources in RD. Currently, it has registered two patents and is on the way to file more.

The money to finance the expansion plan comes from own and bank resources. The business invoices 6 million euros (2022 data) and Torres assures that it generates profits. At the beginning of 2022, Bold also carried out a capital increase for 2.5 million euros, an operation that was led by the industrial company Tavil, based in Olot and owned by the Vilanova family. The company also gave entry to Josep Maria Tarragó, former vice president of Ficosa, who recently left the shareholding.
