Benito Urban, the allies of the 'smart city'

Their DNA, as detailed by the general manager, Andrea Carandell, is marked by "an awareness of environmental sustainability", both for the materials with which they work (wood and recycled plastics, steel or concrete), and for the efficiency of their design. The directive is part of the “seventh generation of a family that came from the world of metallurgy, which began with the manufacture of textile machines. But after the crisis in the sector, my father took advantage of all the knowledge he had about steel, iron and foundry to transform the business and focus it on the construction and design of sewers and street furniture”. This evolution has made them grow towards public lighting, playgrounds and sustainable mobility products, a new area that is being promoted internationally.

This 2022, the firm turns 30 and has many figures to celebrate. “We will close the year with a turnover of 80 million euros and we are present in 170 countries. This is due to the constant work and the involvement of a great team of 140 workers”, assures the directive.

Carandell, who studied ADE and worked as an auditor in another company, joined the family company in 2014, in the Novatilu division, dedicated to urban lighting. “My father in 2011 added a partner, an investment fund, to promote internationalization. We left the shareholding, but since the family had bought a factory in China specializing in lighting, with our engineers, I added to the know-how we already had. We started, again, with five people in Novatilu in 2015 and, after four years, we reached 50 workers and a turnover of 20 million ”, she explains. In 2018, the Carandells repurchased Benito, "which allowed us to reposition ourselves at the family level as market leaders," she describes with satisfaction.

He qualifies that they are "open to incorporating other companies into their portfolio." On the table he has "two operations that we hope to close in the first half of 2023, which will allow us to invoice 100 million euros," says Carandell, without specifying more.
