Belarra assures that he is "already working so that this political space is presented together with the elections"

“Podemos is going to be where it has always been, working for social transformations and for unity, and in this sense I want to inform you that we are already working to give the citizens of this country the news that they have been waiting for so long, so that this political space show up united to the elections and let's go out and win”.

Those have been the words of the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, in an urgent appearance.

Belarra did not plan to appear before the media today and in fact, the executive of the purple formation had announced that the spokespersons Pablo Fernández and Isa Serra would attend the media. Pedro Sánchez's call for general elections for July changed Podemos' plans.

Belarra has admitted the hardness of the defeat, which he has extended to the rest of the left-wing formations. "The progressive block is losing in the first half of the game, but we came out to win in the second half and we want to do what we do best, which is come back." In his opinion, "it is possible, with courage, to revalidate the trust of the people of this country, not only in the coalition government but particularly in the United We Can space."

In his opinion, the strength of Podemos "is the only condition of possibility for deep, structural transformations, which are not just patches or cosmetic measures, to occur."

In any case, the first to react to Pedro Sánchez's announcement was Vice President Yolanda Díaz, leader of Sumar, who wrote on Twitter: “The message received last night was very clear: things must be done differently. No distractions. From this very moment we are working to win on July 23. I take up the challenge. This country has a great future. These are bold times. We have a project to continue responding to the social, ecological and economic challenges of our country. Against the black Spain of Feijóo, we went out to win. People are waiting for us”, I wrote on the social network.

The general coordinator of the IU, and Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón, who wrote on social networks: "Given the electoral call, from Izquierda Unida we are going to defend the social conquests achieved during all these years and we We get to work to present a country proposal that allows us to stop the reactionary wave”.

Sources from both Sumar, IU and Podemos confirmed this Monday that they are already working on the agreement to reunify the space around Yolanda Díaz and present a joint candidacy before the ten days that the law enables to do so, from the dissolution of the Cortes Generales.
