Barcelona City Council has opened a demolition file to demolish the Italian Pavilion at Fira de Barcelona, where training sessions for various sports entities in the district are currently taking place.
According to the councilor of Sants-Montjuïc, Raquel Gil, during the neighborhood council of La Font de la Guatlla this Monday, the pavilion has "a birth defect" because it is classified as a green area, according to Betevé.
This prevents the construction or repair of the equipment to convert it into sports equipment as planned because it would be committing an urban planning crime. "It is insurmountable and, therefore, we have initiated a demolition file," he added.
The green zone classification makes it impossible to redo the pavements for competitions or build changing rooms. Therefore, according to the recommendations of the council's legal team, this pavilion must be demolished.
Given the doubts of the neighbors, Raquel Gil has promised that the file will allow working on definitive solutions and in other spaces that allow sports practice. Meanwhile, the transfer to entities close to the neighborhood will be maintained so that they can only carry out training sessions, without competing.
