The Board of Spokespersons of the Barcelona City Council has unanimously agreed today to award, posthumously, the city's Gold Medal to the RTVE journalist Mària Sànchez, who died last week.

Barcelona awards the city's Gold Medal posthumously to the journalist Mària Sánchez

The Board of Spokespersons of the Barcelona City Council has unanimously agreed today to award, posthumously, the city's Gold Medal to the RTVE journalist Mària Sànchez, who died last week.

The municipal groups have wanted to recognize the professional career of this journalist and, especially, her dedication to local information in Barcelona. The approval of the granting of this award, which has already been communicated to the relatives, will be made in the municipal plenary session next Friday.

Mària Sànchez, who was the first director of El escarabajo verde, the pioneering program on the environment on RTVE, died at the age of 59 as a result of cancer.

Mària was a personal and journalistic reference for the professionals who worked with her throughout her career. Her goodbye has been very felt by all those who were lucky enough to know her, as she highlighted last Saturday at the multi-tiny funeral that took place at the Sancho de Ávila funeral home.
