Badalona will renew the lighting on public roads

The municipal government has launched a Plan to improve public lighting that aims to ensure that the 30,000 light points that exist in Badalona are LED technology. This type of lighting, which will replace traditional lighting such as halogen or incandescent bulbs, has numerous advantages such as energy efficiency, maintenance, durability and that it does not contain harmful gases or toxic chemicals. The Plan begins to be executed this November and will be completed before the end of the current municipal mandate.

This announcement was made today by the mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, the deputy mayor of the Area of Territory and Sustainability, Daniel Gracia, and the councilor of the Area of Public Roads and Mobility, David Mejía. The mayor has pointed out that: "this plan is very necessary because currently the lighting of our streets is totally deficient, both from an environmental point of view, as well as from the economic and security aspects." In this sense, Garcia Albiol has highlighted that "in addition to adapting all the light points that currently exist in the city to LED technology, we will install new streetlights in all the streets that are not sufficiently well illuminated to encourage neighbors and neighbors live as safely as possible in all the neighborhoods of Badalona.

Of the 30,000 light points in Badalona, only 10% work with LED technology. On the other hand, currently about 4,000 light points are 4-meter street lamps with the staff or column ending in a globe. In a first phase, which will be completed before the end of the year, 400 of this type of streetlights located in areas such as Prim Street will be renewed; Riera de Canyadó street, the surroundings of the Plaza de la Pipa in the Llefià neighborhood; Nova Lloreda, the southern area of the Pomar neighborhood and the Canyadó neighborhood.

The Badalona City Council allocates around 3.5 million euros annually to lighting public roads. With the renewal of the yellow light points to LED light, the energy savings will be between 50 and 60%. The Public Lighting Improvement Plan also contemplates the installation of new light points in those areas of the city where deficiencies in lighting have been detected.
