At least three dead in two shootings in Rotterdam

At least three people have died this Thursday afternoon in two shootings at a university hospital in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. The deceased are a 39-year-old woman, her 14-year-old daughter, and a 42-year-old teacher. The alleged perpetrator of the events was a student at the same center and has already been arrested by local police.

The 32-year-old man began shooting at a house, where he caused a "major" fire, according to police. The man then headed towards the nearby "Erasmus MC" university hospital, where he shot several people, including the professor who died. Another fire also started there, according to various videos that spread on social networks. Finally, the suspect was arrested at the helipad of the same medical center.

According to what the police have made public, the alleged perpetrator of the events was wearing "combat" clothing, was tall, had black hair and was carrying a backpack. The security forces believe that he was the only attacker and still do not know the motivation for the attack.

Several videos posted online show police ordering students to run as heavily armed arrest teams arrived on the scene.

At first, the local police in the town reported the shootings and that "several people" had died. Hours later, it was learned that the initial number of fatalities was two and that another, a 14-year-old girl, was in serious condition. Finally, the young woman died in a hospital.
