The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested 14 people on the third night of the Mercè festivities in Barcelona.
Municipal sources have indicated that nine of these arrests occurred in the concert area located around the Palau Reial. The police charges occurred at the end of the Zona Universitaria concerts, which, once again, were marred by a few when a group of young people confronted the police when they did not want to leave the venue.
The events would have happened around 3:30 in the morning and some of the participants would have thrown bottles and other objects at the agents. The Mossos and the Urban Police have intervened in the operation. As ACN has learned, at least one waiter was injured.
Regarding the six wounded by a knife on Sunday night in the Poblenou neighborhood, Mossos mayor Víctor Martín, in an interview on Catalunya Ràdio reported by Europa Press, said that they do not know if it is a gang, but that several Testimonies affirm that they were "a group of between six and eight people." He has indicated that there is an open line of investigation to know "the motivations of these people and who they were."
Sources from Barcelona City Council have indicated that a total of 20,000 people gathered around the Menéndez y Pelayo stage and nearly 8,000 approached the Moll de la Fusta stage. Additionally, 80,000 citizens gathered on Bogatell beach, where a drone show took place.
In relation to mobility, 1,263,000 trips were made, a figure that represents an increase of 19.5% compared to the same one that was postponed from the 2019 Mercè festivities.
When asked about citizens' criticism of the lack of lighting at some points on the routes to and from the concerts, he responded that the body "tries to guarantee safety" but that the lack of light is not one of its powers. .
Martín has recommended to anyone who wants to attend the Piromusical de la Mercè on Maria Cristina Avenue this Monday night to go to the appointment in good time and to "be patient when leaving the site because there will surely be a lot of people."
