Aragonès summons Junts to set "concrete proposals" for independence, but asks for responsibility

The new political course of the Government begins with the threat of Junts to plant ERC and leave the Catalan Executive. He did it yesterday, through his general secretary, Jordi Turull, pushed by the suspended president of the Parliament, Laura Borràs. The postconvergents consider that it is moving away from the goal of independence and Junts has given itself time until the general policy debate in Parliament – from September 27 to 30 – for the party to finish making a decision. But the Cabinet of Pere Aragonès prefers to stay out of the controversy, even the ministers of JxCat try to leave this issue in the hands of the party leaderships. Even so, today the president of the Generalitat has dedicated part of his speech at the meeting of the Consell Executiu to this latest crisis and has asked the members of the Government to let the political parties set their positions and their motivations, “ with the utmost responsibility."

The spokeswoman for the Government, Patrícia Plaja, at a press conference this afternoon, also stressed that Aragonès has stated that "it will always be willing to listen to specific proposals from everyone, in all areas, especially in conflict resolution politician with the Spanish State”. But he has done so by demanding responsibility from JxCat due to the complex economic situation that is coming that requires, in his opinion, that the 2023 budgets be approved in a timely manner, as happened last year.

"It has gone through ups and downs, we know that it would not be easy and that we are not close [to independence], but we are still determined to move forward," said the spokeswoman, who in turn admitted that in the Government there is "space for self-criticism and room for improvement”.

Plaja, however, has avoided commenting on whether the diagnosis of Junts in the national axis endangers the stability of the Government. He has recognized that it is a new crisis –“in this press room I have been asked and cross-examined about these crises”, Plaja said-, but he has pointed out that the president has reminded the ministers that since the beginning of the legislature there are already coordination spaces between ERC and Junts. In addition, the head of the Catalan Executive maintains his commitment to "advance on the path towards independence", as stated in the agreement between ERC and Junts that allowed the investiture of Aragonès.

The president of the Generalitat has already recognized on several occasions that on the national axis, with the leading role of the dialogue table between the Spanish and Catalan governments, it is not progressing as he would like. However, Plaja has stressed that "the Government's agreements are being fulfilled" taking into account that only a little over a year of mandate has elapsed. Specifying in the national axis, the Government prepared a report a few months ago in which it stated that progress had been made by 40%.

“The Government makes every effort to work isolated from these party dynamics”, Plaja highlighted. In fact, he has stated that the controversy is not affecting the day-to-day of the ministers, who remain "concentrated on their sectoral functions." "The Government is working and is working well," she concluded.
