Aragonès celebrates that the alternative to the Midcat puts Barcelona "on the European energy map"

The agreement for the construction of a new green energy corridor between Barcelona and Marseille reached today between the leaders of Spain, France and Portugal is "very positive news" that will place the Catalan capital "on the new European energy map", has held this Thursday in Brussels the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès. The announcement of the agreement for the construction of the new infrastructure, which replaces the Midcat project, a pipeline that had to cross the Pyrenees, something that was always problematic for France, has surprised the president in the community capital, where for the first time in seven years a representative of the Catalan Government has been received in the European Commission.

“We have always said that it was important for Catalonia to play a fundamental role in the new European energy configuration” and with the new project “it is confirmed that it will have a relevant role in the interconnections, taking advantage of the current regasification capacity that exists in the port of Barcelona” , highlighted Aragonès. The commitment to green hydrogen, he has underlined, "reinforces" the commitment that has been made by the Government for this green renewable gas generation technology from Tarragona, among other locations.

Aragonès has confirmed that the Spanish executive has "informed" him prior to the announcement of the agreement reached this morning by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa.

“When we go into the details, we will have a lot to say” to make it “the best possible project”, he added.
