André Onana removed from his team due to discrepancies with the coach

Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana has been dropped from his team ahead of Monday's match against Serbia after refusing to change his style of play. This decision goes back to last Saturday when after the defeat of the African team against Switzerland by 1-0, Rigobert Song asked him to take less risks in the starts and with the ball at his feet. The African goalkeeper did not attend to the requests of his coach, and after seeing himself as a substitute, both parties decided that the player should leave the concentration.

Following this situation, Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation, positioned himself in favor of his coach. A complicated situation for Onana, since after a single game he says goodbye to the possibility of playing in the World Cup in Qatar, his first world cup.

Cameroon faces Serbia this Monday in the second day of the group stage. Framed in group G, both teams are tied on one point, with Cameroon in third position and Serbia in fourth.

Educated at the Eto'o Academy Foundation, André Onana joined La Masia in 2010. In the 2013-14 season he won the UEFA Youth League with Barça, and in 2015 he was transferred to Ajax Amsterdam. In the 2016-17 season he became the starting goalkeeper for the Dutch team, a team in which he remained until the end of the 2021-22 season when he signed for Inter Milan. In the Italian team the Cameroonian goalkeeper managed to take ownership in the Champions League.
