The First Division teams have to fight in the initial rounds of the Copa del Rey against the enthusiasm and desire of the more modest teams, but also with playing fields that they are not used to, sometimes with artificial turf and other times simply on poor condition, as happened to Real Madrid in their tight win against Cacereño (0-1).
The Príncipe Felipe green was not in the best condition, with the tall grass and irregularities that increased as the minutes passed, which meant that the ball could not be circulated comfortably on the ground. High balls were the solution, but the Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, wanted to denounce this situation after the final whistle.
"You can't play. This for me is not football, it is another sport. Nice because small teams can compete with bigger teams. It's good for the fans, but they also want to see football played", the Italian assured when asked about the state of the field, which was affected by the rain that has fallen in recent days in Cáceres.
The transalpine explained that his pupils carried out an "even and competitive" game that was decided with a beautifully crafted goal from Rodrygo after the hour of play. Ancelotti added that he did not suffer at any time from the elimination and remarked that his pupils "have complied, doing what they had to do."
"I liked everything, from the first minute to the last, we have known how to suffer, we have not risked behind", praised the Italian, who saw how the modest team from Extremadura, from the 2nd RFEF, maintained their options until practically the final whistle. Ancelotti concluded that his team is prepared to fight for all the titles, including the Cup, a twist that has resisted them since 2014.
