An octogenarian is sentenced to three years in prison for trying to kill his son-in-law in Segorbe

The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Castellón has sentenced a man who tried to kill his daughter's husband in a bar in Segorbe to a three-year prison sentence for attempted murder.

The 80-year-old convict may not come within 200 meters of the victim or communicate with her by any means for five years. The man must indemnify his son-in-law with 2,440 euros for the injuries he suffered and the consequences that he suffered as a result of the attack.

The events happened on December 26, 2021 when the victim was sitting on the terrace of a bar in Segorbe, along with the prisoner's daughter and some friends. The sentence relates that, around 1:30 p.m., the condemned man addressed his son-in-law, called him a son of a bitch and threatened to kill him.

The assailant then left but returned minutes later armed with a three-inch blade concealed under his jacket. As he approached the victim, he pulled it out and tried to drive it into the victim's neck. The victim, warned by the people who accompanied him, protected himself from the attack and stopped the knife with his left hand, which caused him to cut his finger.

After this action, the condemned man was detained by several people to prevent him from fleeing and from continuing to attack his daughter's husband, who required three stitches in the wound, among other injuries, which took 41 days to heal.

The attacker maintained an enmity with his son-in-law since he, along with his wife and daughter of the convicted person, denounced him for a crime of ill-treatment committed against his wife. The sentence is not final and can be appealed before the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community.
