An exhibition presents games from the Iberian, Roman and medieval times in Calella

The traveling exhibition «Caput aut navis. Heads up or tails» visits the Municipal Museum of Calella (Maresme), from this Saturday, June 4, to September 18, with a review of different games from the times of the Iberians and Romans to medieval times.

Caput aut navis -in Catalan "heads or tails"- was the Latin name of one of the most popular games in ancient times and has survived to this day. This is also the title of the exhibition produced by the Granollers Museum and adapted for itinerancy by the Cultural Heritage Office of the Barcelona Provincial Council's Department of Culture. The exhibition proposes a review of different games that have accompanied us since the time of the Iberians and that show the social importance of the game beyond the world of childhood.

Through 72 pieces from the archaeological collection of the Granollers Museum (where it was exhibited from December 2018 to March 2019), the exhibition invites you to take a walk through the universe of gaming in ancient times. This set of small-format pieces, which normally rest in boxes in warehouses, take on a new role and explain how the game was played from the times of the Iberians and Romans to medieval times.

Structured in six areas -Play kitchens, Sounds and bullets, Alea iacta est, Golafre!, Let's play! and Caput aut navis – the exhibition takes a thematic and playful journey through the world of the game based on knucklebones, fireta pieces, coins, bells and other elements.

The exhibition has been conceived as an inclusive, didactic and interactive sample, which makes available to the visitor a series of resources aimed at facilitating and enriching the visit for all. As a linked activity, the family workshop "Lvdi Romanorum: playing in the Greco-Roman way" is scheduled, which shows games from Greco-Latin antiquity on table and floor, both indoors and outdoors, on Friday, July 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. .

The portal of the accessibility program La Mirada Táctil presents eight videos specially conceived for people with hearing and sensory difficulties, where the content is found in sign language for the signatory deaf community and subtitles for the oralist deaf community.

To complete the visit, the Jocs amb història web space has been enabled, where some games that are part of our heritage and of a universal heritage that are still played today, with variations, are collected. The morra, the marro de 9 or the alquerc are ancient games that spread throughout the Mediterranean and of which allusive engravings from different eras have been found in Catalonia. The current 3 in a row, still well known today, is part of a large family of games present throughout Europe and which has its origin in the brown of 9. The website allows you to play some of these games online and also presents videos descriptive.
