An electric tower may have caused the fire in Montitxelvo

An electrical tower, whose wiring could have come into contact with nearby trees, is the presumed origin of the forest fire that broke out in Montitxelvo (Valencia) on November 2 and destroyed around 2,500 hectares of land.

The Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has explained that this has been determined by the report on the possible origin of the fire carried out by the Civil Guard, which has already completed the investigation and this Friday will hand over the proceedings to the Environmental Prosecutor's Office. .

The report says that "presumably the origin of the fire occurred in the radius of an electrical turret" and that its wiring "could have come into contact with nearby trees and that could have caused a spark to jump."

The wind conditions that occurred during those days, with very high gusts, "were what could have triggered and started the fire," added the Government delegate.

The fire, extinguished on November 16, affected a perimeter of 60 kilometers that covered eight municipalities - Ador, Villalonga, Llocnou de Sant Jeroni, Castellonet de la Conquesta, Potries, La Font d'en Carròs, Montitxelvo and Terrateig- and that forced the evacuation of about 850 people.
