An elderly woman who had been on the floor for three days after falling out of bed was rescued in Torrevieja

The Civil Guard rescued an unconscious 78-year-old woman who had fallen out of bed and was between it and a wardrobe in her bedroom in the Alicante town of Torrevieja. Due to the fall she had suffered minor injuries and due to the time she had spent in that position, she had symptoms of dehydration, for which they had to force a gate to gain access and facilitate access to the toilets.

The events occurred on May 31, when the Civil Guard received a call from the Basque Country, in which a woman expressed her concern about the possible disappearance of her 78-year-old mother, residing in Torrevieja, for three days.

Immediately, a patrol from the Torrevieja Civil Guard Main Post went to the home of the disappeared woman, where they met with the neighbors, who confirmed the daughter's version. Through various telephone calls, ringing the doorbell of the house, as well as out loud, an attempt was made to contact the disappeared person, but no response was received.

Faced with this situation, the daughter was called again in the hope that someone with a copy of the key could open the house, but it turned out to be impossible since no one had a copy. The daughter explained to the agents that her mother had to be inside the house, since she depends on an oxygen machine and in these circumstances it was unlikely that she would have left without warning.

The agents verified, in fact, through a window with bars, that there was a portable oxygen concentrator inside, commonly used by patients to breathe oxygen at an adequate rate, so they decided to enter the house.

In one of the rooms, on the floor between the bed and a closet, they found the old woman unconscious and dehydrated, with bruises from the fall. The agents managed to make her regain consciousness and later she was transferred to the University Hospital of Torrevieja.

Days after these events, the main post of the Torrevieja Civil Guard, the daughter of the assisted woman went to the barracks to thank the agents for their efficient intervention and inform them that her mother had recovered.

In similar situations involving older people, the Civil Guard recommends installing the Alertcops application, which through the Guardian function allows a family member or close person to know the location of the older person at all times, in order to inform the Forces and State Security Corps in case of disappearance.
