An elderly woman from Zaragoza dies twice in less than 24 hours

Two deaths and a resurrection in just 24 hours. It sounds bizarre, but that is what happened in Zaragoza to a 90-year-old woman who was presumed dead in the hospital and whose death was certified again the next day after being admitted after showing signs of life in the funeral home. to which it had been sent.

The events in question took place last Monday the 18th at the San Juan de Dios hospital in the Aragonese capital. There, the woman went into cardiac arrest and, after performing the relevant tests, the doctors certified her death.

This was communicated by staff from the center to his relatives before moving his body to the Torrero municipal cemetery, where the wake was scheduled to be held the next day so that his loved ones could say goodbye to him before the funeral.

The surprise came when the tanatopractor who was preparing the body to transfer it to one of the wake rooms warned that the old woman showed signs of life. After calling 061 to request the dispatch of an ambulance, the technicians who arrived at the cemetery confirmed that, indeed, the old woman was alive.

Immediately afterwards, the woman was transferred back to the San Juan de Dios hospital, where she was admitted around four in the morning. The center also notified the elderly woman's daughter, who was able to see her mother in a hospital room. However, that same day, around 6:30 p.m., her death was reported again, this time definitive.

Despite the unusual nature of the event, the hospital itself stated that this phenomenon, although exceptional, is “relatively common in critically ill patients,” as reported by the newspaper Herado de Aragón. Apparently, in some cases the body can have a reaction that makes the heart work again for a certain time, a kind of spasm that causes temporary reactivity of the organ. Although it is said “that a person is still alive, he really does not,” they assert.

The National Police confirmed to this newspaper that they have opened an investigation to clarify what happened and determine if any irregularity or negligence was committed on the part of the center's professionals, although for the moment they have not found "anything strange" and they rule out criminal responsibilities.
