As F1 has revealed, the new contest -launched this year- by popular vote organized by the cryptocurrency firm Cryto.com has chosen Fernando Alonso as the winner of the Overtaking of the Month award, corresponding to March.

In that first race of the season at the Sajir circuit, the Asturian driver amazed with his first podium finish behind the two Red Bulls, which he reached after beating Hamilton and winning the position of Charles Leclerc, who suffered a breakdown.

The now famous video library overtaking, which will be remembered as one of Fernando Alonso's and F1's best, came on lap 38 of the Bahrain race, when the Spaniard and the Englishman were disputing fifth position.

Alonso, who was setting the best lap of the race (v. 37), stealthily approached the Mercedes, got to 0.4, and began to look for the seams. Launching a first attack at turn 4, Alonso led by a few metres, but slipped through and Hamilton regained the position. A turn later (v. 38), the Spaniard returned to the charge. He unexpectedly went for an inside at Turn 10 and left Hamilton dry.

In the following laps, the Aston Martin driver won the position of Leclerc due to a failure due to failure (batteries) and finally conquered third position with another superb pass on his friend Carlos Sainz.

Fernando Alonso is signing an excellent start to the championship, with a performance from Aston Martin that exceeds the best expectations. The Spaniard has achieved three podiums in the three races held, the last one in Australia this past Sunday, behind Hamilton, with whom he revived another duel, which fell on the Englishman's side.

With these three podiums, Alonso has 45 points in the general classification, 24 behind leader Max Verstappen and only 9 behind Checo Pérez, second.

The next race, the fourth of the season, will be at the Baku urban circuit, corresponding to the Azerbaijan GP, ​​on April 30 (at 1:00 p.m. Spanish time).
