The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, assured this Monday that security has been reinforced in Plaza Dos de Mayo, with a permanent Madrid Municipal Police patrol from Thursday to Sunday, and he hopes to be able to install the cameras. of video surveillance "as soon as possible". In this area, in the emblematic square of the Malasaña neighborhood, in addition to legal uncertainty, there have been several accidents caused by VTCs, which enter the square and remain embedded in the stairs.

In statements to journalists from the Casa de la Villa, the mayor has defended that a "very important" effort is already being made in the area around the Plaza del Dos de Mayo, after the latest altercations and neighborhood complaints about the insecurity of area.

However, he recalled that there is a fixed municipal police patrol on days when more problems are expected, in addition to reporting that the placement of video surveillance cameras is already being put out to tender. "We are also waiting for authorization from the Government Delegation to be able to start installing them as soon as possible," she assured.

Regarding cleaning, Almeida has indicated that work is being done on it and recalled that the City Council presented its anti-graffiti contract precisely in this area. "We know that it is one of those places that is especially punished," he said.

Likewise, he referred to one of the commitments of this legislature, which is to reform the square with the aim of "undoubtedly improving the conditions of the public space."

"We accept the complaints that neighbors may have but there is also a municipal police patrol on a regular basis on the most problematic days and hours, we are going to install those video surveillance cameras, we are going to improve by reforming the Plaza del 2 of May all the public space that there is and we are going to make an effort so that, of course, in conditions of cleanliness and graffiti they can have the best possible conditions", he summarized.
