Alexia Putellas: "We want there to be respect for our profession"

They want respect for their profession. That is the call of Alexia Putellas after leading the criticism directed at Luis Rubiales, and that she has now wanted to go further to expose the difficulties and expectations in the fight that women's football is waging. The Barça footballer commented on all this in an interview with Marc Crosas for TUDN in Mexico, in which she also spoke about the expectations for this season.

"We all want the same thing, that there be respect for our profession. Just as there has been for so many years and it continues to be in the men's category, we simply fight for that," said the soccer player, who also spoke about how they had to be more than just football players. "I will always defend that the player is a player. My generation has had to play other roles, not just as players, to achieve that."

The one from Mollet del Vallès was clear about the legacy they want to give to the next generations of women's football. "A legacy that we want to leave to the following ones is that they no longer have to worry about these things. Because in the end it is energy that you focus on other things that are not really your job. Your work is on the field, 24/7 being footballer, but not investing energy in meetings to get better infrastructures, better facilities that help you do your job well".

Alexia also made it clear that achieving it is a task that does not only involve them. "We also need executives and institutions to fight for that, so that we can be focused on what we like and what we believe people deserve as well."

The culé midfielder also commented on what is coming for the team this coming season. "Right now I wouldn't know how to tell you the leagues we have, the cups, I don't count all that. I always try to focus on now. In trying to get the four titles, that's good we've won a lot, that's true, but the four titles in one season they have resisted us and I think it is a very good challenge".

She even mentioned retirement, still far away for her, when asked about the World Cup. "I think that I will be aware of all this the day I decide to hang up my boots and then I think I will look back and keep all that, with the moments with my teammates, with the first times at the Camp Nou, that connection with the fans, having emptied myself. I think that I will be aware of all this when this cycle ends, that there will be a day that will pass, but I hope that there are many years left and I feel that there are still many years left, "Putellas concluded.

From Mexico, the soccer player will continue preparing for a season in which she will present herself as world champion, in addition to taking the Champions League crown in a Barça that wants to continue at the top of Spanish and European soccer. All this while they wait to put the controversy behind them and focus on what they want most: play football.
