Aleix Garcia and Rodrigo Conde, silver in the European Rowing Championships in Munich

The Spanish double scull formed by the Catalan Aleix Garcia and the Galician Rodrigo Conde won the silver medal at the European Rowing Championships, which conclude this Sunday in Munich. This silver is added to the bronze achieved on Saturday by Canalejo and García Ordóñez in two without a helmsman.

The Spanish boat took the lead in the first leg of the race and halfway through the race it was overtaken by the Croatian of the Sinkovic brothers (Martin and Valent), who ended up winning with a time of 6:35.93. At 2:53 the Spanish boat crossed the finish line, followed by the Lithuanian couple, at 6:18.

"Very happy to be tightening the screws on the Sinkovic brothers, who are the best in history in this modality", commented the Spanish couple, who formed a duo in the double scull "a year ago like a dream in search of Olympic classification , although we stayed at the gates, but that illusion is what has made us take the leap".

The silver for Garcia and Conde is the second Spanish medal at the European Championships in Munich, the day after the bronze achieved by Jaime Canalejo and Javier García Ordóñez in the final of the two without coxswain.

Canalejo and García, who achieved an Olympic diploma in Tokyo 2021, runners-up at the Belgrade World Cup and sixth this spring at the Lucerne World Cup, signed a great result that allowed the Spanish medal table to be released.

In the skiff final, the Cantabrian Virginia Díaz signed a fifth place. She made a slow start, reached the 500 meters in sixth and last position, gained a place by passing the 1,000, but made no further progress. She finished 19.24 seconds behind the champion, the Dutch Karolien Florijn.
