Alcaraz withdraws from the Basel tournament due to injury

The world number two, Carlos Alcaraz, will not participate in the ATP 500 in Basel, which takes place from October 21 to 29. The Murcian tennis player has been ruled out due to injury since he "suffers from inflammation in the sole of his left foot and problems in his gluteal muscles." Alcaraz, 20 years old, hopes to be recovered for the Paris Masters 1,000.

It was the organizers of the Swiss Indoors in Basel who announced the Spanish tennis player's decision in a press release. Last year, Alcaraz was a semi-finalist in the Swiss tournament, where he was defeated by the Canadian Auger-Aliassime.

Alcaraz's absence is a blow to his hopes of gaining ground on Novak Djokovic in the ATP rankings. Both are separated by 500 points in the standings. The Paris Masters begins on October 30.

The Murcian, who this year won his second Grand Slam at Wimbledon, has just been defeated by Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters on October 11.

Now, after resting and recovering, Alcaraz will try to make a comeback at the Paris Masters 1,000, where he will also coincide with Djokovic. The young Spaniard has six titles in 2023, among them he has already won the Indian Wells and Madrid Masters.
