Albiol "plants" the "tallest Christmas tree in the Universe" in Badalona

This Monday, Badalona began work to erect the "largest Christmas tree in Spain and the Universe", as defined by its mayor, Xavier García Albiol, which, at 40 meters high and 15 meters in diameter, exceeds the dimensions of the Christmas tree in the city of Vigo (Pontevedra), which until now held the record.

"The objective is that the residents of Badalona can enjoy the tallest tree in Spain and in the universe, but also citizens from all over the country who want to visit it," highlighted the mayor of Badalona, Xavier García Albiol (PP), who has visited this Monday the start of the work.

As detailed by Albiol, the city has allocated a total of 1.7 million euros this year to Christmas decorations and events, which includes the illuminated tree, more floats in the Three Wise Men parade, and decorative lights in all neighborhoods. from Badalona for the first time.

The illuminated tree will be installed in the Gorg neighborhood, in front of the Olympic Pavilion, and its height is equivalent to a 13-story building. The objective, Albiol stressed, is to excite the residents of Badalona, especially the children, but also to attract people from outside the city to see the tree and take advantage of the visit to learn about the gastronomic and economic offer of Badalona.

The work to set up the Christmas tree will last between seven and nine days, Albiol said, depending on the weather, although the official inauguration will be at an event on November 18.

In total, a dozen large trucks will take the material to Badalona in the coming days, where since this Monday various workers and a huge crane have been working in the square where the giant illuminated tree will be erected.

Albiol has reiterated the invitation he made a few days ago to the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero (PSOE), to visit Badalona and enjoy the "largest illuminated tree in the universe." "The mayor of Vigo is invited to visit and see the tallest Christmas tree in Spain. Vigo will have a spectacular Christmas, it will have a lot of lighting, but, if you want to see the largest Christmas tree in the world, you will have to accept my invitation and come to Badalona", said Albiol.

The mayor of Badalona has assured that "he does not intend to compete with Vigo or any other city", but has insisted that, if until now the Galician city had the tallest illuminated tree in the universe, now Badalona will have it. Furthermore, Albiol has resolved that "Christmas in Catalonia will begin when the Badalona tree is lit."
