Alberto Ginés hangs the second bronze in the European Championships in Munich

At just 19 years old, Alberto Ginés continues to be successful in bouldering. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in climbing concluded his participation in the European Championships in Munich on Thursday by hanging a second bronze medal. After the third place achieved last Sunday in the difficulty modality, the Extremaduran returned to the podium for his performance in the combined.

Ginés added a total of 151.7 points, only behind Austrian Jakob Schubert (175.6) and Frenchman Adam Ondra (170.8). The irregularity of Ginés in the first test of the final, the blocks, prevented him from aspiring to higher levels. With his exhibition on the difficulty one he temporarily climbed up to second position. However, Ondra, top favorite who had already been gold in difficulty and bronze in blocks, snatched the silver.

With these results, he shows that he has left behind the physical problems that left him out of action in recent months. In the Bavarian capital, Ginés once again demonstrated that ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics he is one of the great candidates to win a medal for the Spanish delegation.

The Extremaduran failed in two of the four zones of the first part of the final, destined for the blocks. He was top in the first and the fourth, but could not reach the maximum point in the second and in the third for a fifth place in that first stage and a lot of disadvantage with respect to the four rivals that preceded him.

In the second round of the combined final, the difficulty one, he showed much of his great potential. He was close to reaching the top. Although he knew, when it was his turn, that he could not win because of the tremendous performance of the Austrian Jakob Schubert, unattainable in scoring, he made a very concentrated and sober climb until almost the end.
