Albares defends the role of the ANP in the future of Gaza

The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, has vindicated during a press conference held together with his Palestinian counterpart Riad al Maliki in the framework of the regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean the role of the Palestinian National Authority as a fundamental actor in the Time to talk about the future of Gaza and a peace process. From Barcelona, Albares has also recalled the Spanish position: this peace process can only go through a two-state solution.

Regarding the future management of the Gaza Strip, Al Maliki affirmed that he will maintain his responsibility, as he said he has done since Hamas took power 17 years ago, alluding to the 60,000 public employees of the Palestinian National Authority who work in Gaza. "We don't need to go back to Gaza because we never left Gaza."

Riad al Maliki has also said he is attending today's meeting in Barcelona because he believes "like all Palestinians, in the Spanish position." Maliki has thanked the Spanish people for their solidarity, taking to the streets to demonstrate against the massacres of civilians in Gaza. The senior Palestinian official has shown complicity with his Spanish counterpart, calling him "colleague" and "friend."

Another of the key points of the appearance was the mention of the truce between Israel and Hamas that ends today and which he assured has been very important in removing the dead from the rubble, getting drinking water to the population and seeking shelter. The Palestinian Foreign Minister has stated that "there is no other option" than to continue working to prolong the truce until it is made permanent and thus avoid the slaughter of innocent civilians. If that opportunity were lost today, the continuation of the war would generate twice as many deaths as there have been until now because almost the entire population is now concentrated in the south.

The Palestinian diplomat has made it clear, although there was little doubt, that the only topic to be discussed at today's meeting is the war in Gaza and how to end it. Malaki has reiterated: "No to war and yes to a ceasefire."

Regarding the diplomatic conflict between Spain and Israel in recent days, Albares has declared that the Israeli accusations of collaboration with terrorism against the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, are "false and unacceptable words." Ella albares has announced that she is the ambassador of Israel in Spain, summoned today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid, who "has to give explanations."
