Agriculture fines 56 companies for breaches of the food law

The Ministry of Agriculture launched the serious or very serious sanctions contemplated in the Food Chain Law with 69 fines against 56 companies of different types. Among those affected are large distributors such as Carrefour, Dia, Froiz or J. García Carrión, among others, as well as suppliers and intermediaries.

The Food Information and Control Agency (AICA), a body dependent on the department headed by Luis Planas, published yesterday the first quarterly list with the firm sanctions. The main reason for them was to have detected a breach of the regulated terms in the payment to the products at origin. The law establishes that if the food is perishable, the buyer must pay the invoice to the supplier a maximum of 30 days later and that if it is not perishable, he must do so with a margin of up to 60 days. This obligation has been breached on almost forty occasions. There were also fines for the non-existence of written contracts or for the non-inclusion of the price of the product in said agreements. Carrefour and Froiz were fined 3,001 euros for breaching the aforementioned payment terms. Dia, for her part, was fined twice for the same reason. The amount amounts to 3,001 euros and 3,899.12 euros, respectively. The J. García Carrión group received a higher requirement, of 9,147.81 euros, for the same violation.

Ray Lech, a company specializing in the wholesale sale of dairy products, eggs, oils and edible fats, was fined 11,500 euros for breaching food contracts and for not including the price of food in them. operations and, in turn, with a penalty of 3,001 euros for failing to comply with the payment terms to its suppliers.
