Actor Chete Lera dies in a traffic accident in Malaga

The Emergency Services of the Junta de Andalucía have reported the death of a 72-year-old man in an accident recorded this Thursday in the Malaga municipality of Rincón de la Victoria. A death that, hours later, was known to be that of the actor Chete Lera.

The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, at which time telephone number 112 received a call from a witness who reported that a car had suffered an accident and had fallen down a slope into a dry river on Calle del Río.

The Local Police and the 061 Health Emergency Center did not take long to mobilize. Police sources confirmed that the car left the road and fell down a steep slope of about 50 meters to a plantation. Medical services could only confirm the death of the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle at the scene of the accident.

He joined the cinema late, but throughout his career he took part in more than 50 films, such as The Red Squirrel, by Julio Medem; Secrets of the Heart, by Montxo Armendáriz; Family and Neighborhood, by Fernando León de Aranoa; Open your eyes, by Alejandro Amenábar; Flowers from another world, by Iciar Bollain; or full moon. He recently participated in Look what you have done, Berto Romero's comedy in which he played his father.

Winner of the award for Best Actor at the 2002 Malaga Film Festival along with the rest of the cast of Smoking Room, by Julio Wallovits and Roger Gual, Lera also developed an important career on stage, where he was directed by José Luis Gómez, Lluís Homar or Gerardo Vera.
