According to reports, Ivan Fedotov, Philadelphia Flyers' was detained in Russia

London -- Russian hockey player Ivan Fedotov signed a one-year entry level contract with NHL's Philadelphia Flyers in may. Russian state media reported that Fedotov was being held in St. Petersburg after he allegedly tried to evade military service. According to the report, he was taken to a Russian military medical hospital after feeling sick.

Russia allows men between the ages of 18 and 27 to be conscripted into the military, with some exceptions. You can be fined and even sentenced to up to two years imprisonment for evading conscription.

According to RIA Novosti, Fedotov's lawyer Alexei Ponomaryev denied that Fedotov had evaded conscription. According to him, Fedotov had complained about insufficient hospital care since Friday's detention.

Ponomaryev stated that Fedetov and his parents were not allowed to see the Russian goalie.

"Recently the military police entered on the territory of the hospital. I introduced myself to them and said I was a lawyer. They then asked me what issue I was looking for. "They turned around and got in the car, but they didn't give any further comments until they were allowed into the hospital grounds," Ponomaryev stated during an interview with Match.TV.

"Since then we haven't heard anything. According to Ponomaryev, they want him to be transferred in serious condition to a military investigation body."

Fedotov's lawyer, and the state news agency TASS, claimed that Fedotov was sent to Severomorsk in Russia's far north Murmansk region, in the Arctic. This is where a large naval base is located.

"Ivan was sent in that night to Severomorsk. According to RIA Novosti, he was transferred to a hospital. However, I don't have any more information." Ponomaryev was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying on Sunday.

Fedotov was a former player for CSKA Moscow, a Russian Kontinental Hockey League. Fedotov also played for Russia's Olympic hockey team that won silver at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

While the NHL has cut business ties to Russia, it has not banned Russian players playing on its teams.
