Acciona and Envision will build the second Spanish battery gigafactory in Extremadura

The Extremaduran municipality of Navalmoral de la Mata will host the second automotive battery gigafactory in Spain after the one that the Volkswagen group will install in the Valencian municipality of Sagunt. The plant will be promoted by the Spanish company Acciona and the Asian group Envision, which will make an initial investment of 800 million euros, although it is expected that they will exceed 2,000 with the help of the Perte de Energies Renewables, Renewable Hydrogen and Storage, according to sources familiar with the project.

The factory will initially develop batteries for different brands and models of motorcycles and for Silence's quadricycle, the Silence S04, an urban mini-vehicle developed by this Spanish sustainable mobility firm. It will occupy some 200 hectares in the ExpacioNavalmoral industrial estate, will have a scalable capacity of 10 GW and will employ a thousand people.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism had spent months managing the installation of Envision in Spain. In fact, the firm, with offices in China and Singapore, has already announced its firm intention to install its European battery base and energy storage system here.

The project is linked to the Cáceres lithium mine for the use and optimization of the entire production chain, from the extraction and treatment of ore to the manufacture of battery cells and cathodes for various industries.
