About thirty entities in Girona are looking for solutions to reduce water consumption

More than thirty entities and institutions in the Girona district have sat down today at the same table to plan strategies that help reduce and adjust water consumption in a particularly critical period for this water resource.

With the swamps at minimum levels due to the lack of rainfall and with more and more towns in an emergency phase due to the drought decree - in the Alt Empordà there are 34 municipalities affected -, today the first meeting of the territorial Taula of l 'Aigua in the Girona district.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the tourism, business, industrial, agricultural, livestock, hydroelectric, sports and recreational sectors, as well as municipal entities, naturalists and members of the Generalitat.

The delegate of the Generalitat in Girona, Laia Cañigueral, explained before the meeting began that "a paradigm shift" is necessary and reduce the use of water in all sectors of society. "We must work on a new water culture and assume that new planning is necessary," she said.

From this territorial Taula de l'Aigua, which will meet periodically, it will be analyzed what measures each sector can take, what water reuse policies can be implemented or the investments and infrastructure that are necessary to reduce consumption and alleviate the deficit of this resource.

One of the complaints made by the mayors of several Alt Empordà towns affected this summer by the emergency phase of the drought decree - which established a maximum consumption of 200 liters per inhabitant per day - is that they do not have sufficient means to monitor spending. of water. This will be one of the issues that the municipalities will transfer to representatives of the Generalitat.

Representatives from the Association of Micro-towns of Catalonia, the Catalan Association of Municipalities and the Federation of Municipalities of Catalonia participated in the meeting.
