A 21-year-old man on trial in Seville for alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl has assured today before the magistrates leading the case against him that he thought the girl was actually 18, in addition to the fact that at all times he understood that she was It was a consensual relationship.

The trial began today in the seventh section of the Provincial Court of Seville, after the parties did not reach an agreement for an out-of-court settlement, the minor's lawyer, María José Atoche, explained to EFE.

The events date back to September 25, 2022, when the accused, who was then 20 years old and had been in Spain for some time from his country, Colombia, allegedly abused the girl after meeting her through social networks, in a relationship. which he maintains was consensual.

At the trial, a police officer testified that the minor looked her age from the start, and a doctor who treated her for injuries suffered during the event explained that, at most, she looked 13 or 14 years old.

The accused has maintained that he had a relationship with her after meeting her up to seven times, but the minor claims that they had met that same day and that they had not spoken before.

In the trial, which was held in a single day, mainly expert evidence was presented, in a case in which both the Prosecutor's Office and the private prosecution requested 12 and a half years in prison.
