A woman arrested for defrauding and setting fire to the house of a septuagenarian in Picassent (Valencia)

The Civil Guard has arrested in Picassent (Valencia) a woman accused of having defrauded 4,200 euros from the account of a septuagenarian and of having burned down her home once it was discovered.

As reported by the Provincial Command in a statement, the victim claimed to be being scammed from the summer of 2022 to January 2023, since someone had taken all his money from his bank account, leaving him in a state of extreme need to able to survive with dignity.

The investigators found out that a woman had made several withdrawals of money from the entity's ATMs with a bank card unknown to the complainant himself. There were 20 extractions through which she appropriated 4,227 euros.

The woman identified herself as the wife of the victim and requested a debit card linked to the defrauded account, the same sources have indicated.

The author, after being discovered, threatened the family with burning down the house, an act that she carried out moments later.

The Civil Guard has also reported that the relatives of the victim showed up at a barracks with a shotgun that they found in one of the closets of the room affected by the fire, without any type of security measure.

After the pertinent verifications, the agents verified that it was registered in the name of the injured party but with the license expired since 1995, for which reason it was held illegally.

Due to these events, a 46-year-old woman of Spanish nationality has been arrested, who is charged with the crimes of fraud and arson.

Likewise, the 70-year-old man of Spanish nationality is being investigated for illegal possession of weapons. The proceedings have been delivered to the Court of First Instance and Instruction Number 1 of Picassent.
