A two-year-old girl drowned this Tuesday in a private pool in the Les Tres Cales urbanization, in l'Ametlla de Mar (Baix Ebre), according to the local media outlet La Cala Ràdio. The emergency services received the call around 7:30 p.m., warning of the accidental drowning of a minor in the pool of a tourist rental house located on Avenida Cala Forn.
In a moment of carelessness, the little girl, only two years old, fell into the pool without her parents noticing. It was her sister who alerted the family that the girl was drowning.
An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Services (SEM) quickly went to the house to try to revive the little girl. Despite the resuscitation maneuvers carried out by the health workers, to try to save the minor, they ended up certifying her death. A minor can drown in just half a minute if she falls into the water and sinks because she doesn't know how to swim, according to experts in aquatic rescues.
The health teams activated the psychological care service for the family of the deceased.
Since the beginning of the year, 30 people have drowned on beaches and swimming pools in Catalonia, 19 during the months of June and July, according to data from the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of the Generalitat. The vast majority (15) have died since June 15 while bathing on a beach.
