A new regulation will affect the entire fleet of elevators in Catalonia

The elevator park continuously incorporates devices on the market with new technological advances that increase their performance, incorporate technical improvements in their components and, together with more effective maintenance, result in safer, more comfortable and energy-efficient installations.

But older elevators are also in use, belonging to previous regulations, with obsolete materials and technologies, in which the benefits are at a disadvantage with the new elevators, and that in some cases deserve improvement interventions.

For this reason, the elevator regulations define the safety rules applicable to the sector that serve to protect people, animals and the facilities themselves against risks of accidents that may occur as a result of improper operation, maintenance or use. The new regulation that will enter in 2023, plans to take an important step in safety, and will mean major changes to existing elevators.

Industrial safety regulations place installers and conservators as the first actors in terms of obligations and responsibilities, but they are also the holders who have a relevant role, and this is defined in the elevator regulations. The owner has the obligation to have all the documentation related to the elevator and to maintain the facilities in adequate safety conditions, proceeding to repair and replace the elements when necessary. He must also contract the periodic inspection with a control body, within the corresponding period.

We remind you that the conservative company must notify you two months in advance. In addition, you must correct the defects that have been detected during the inspection. The technical adviser of the Gremi d'Elevators points out that the new regulation insists on the obligations of the owner, to keep and guard all documentation related to the elevator and its facilities. Showing that this point becomes more important when the installation is old and the documentation is not located, nor the instruction manual, nor maintenance, for example.
