A new bike path connects UAB and Cerdanyola with Badia del Vallès

Today the new bike lane that will connect the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and Cerdanyola with Badia del Vallès was inaugurated, which will allow faster and safer cycling in the Vallès Occidental.

The new road is 750 meters long and crosses the River Sec. It was included in the 2020-2023 metropolitan investment plan of the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) and has been financed by the Badia del Vallès City Council and the European Funds for Regional Development (Feder) of the European Union. It is included in the Bicivia, the metropolitan cycling network.

In the inauguration ceremony of the bike lane, the vice president of Mobility of the AMB, Antoni Poveda, pointed out that "with this project we have improved connectivity with the UAB and the surrounding municipalities, at a time when the use of the bike It has grown a lot. We must continue promoting sustainable mobility".

The rector of the UAB, Javier Lafuente, also participated in the event, indicating that this new lane "brings us closer to urban centers and, by extension, to the public".

The project was awarded for 845,813 euros and the works began in February of last year. The section passes through the Badia path and crosses the Sec river with a new footbridge that allows pedestrians and cyclists to be segregated, saving a 42-metre drop.

This new axis will make it possible to connect, later, with Barberá del Vallès, where it will connect with the Bicivia 6 axis, which will connect Vallès with Besòs and, in this way, will pass through Cerdanyola, Ripollet, Montcada i Reixac, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Adrià de Besòs. On the south side, and through the UAB campus, it will connect to the Bicivia 9 axis, which connects the center of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Parc de l'Alba and Sant Cugat del Vallès.
