A man arrested in Vic in connection with the death of his partner, who disappeared last month

The Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a 59-year-old man in Vic in connection with the death of his partner, whose disappearance had been reported on April 19.

Agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Central Missing Persons Unit arrested the man in this town on May 11, as reported through a publication on X (formerly Twitter).

The arrest was precipitated when investigators found out that the person under investigation wanted to leave the country. The detainee was handed over to the Vic courts this morning.

The Department of Equality and Feminisms of the Generalitat has expressed its deepest condolences and support to the environment of the woman allegedly murdered by sexist violence, as well as to the residents of the town.

With the confirmation of this new case, the number of femicides rises to 11. Since official data began to be collected in 2012, there have been 141 femicides in Catalonia, of which seven correspond to minor sons and daughters. The number of sons and daughters who have been orphaned by sexist violence is seven in 2024 and 99 in the last decade.
